Our Bio Page:
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this Victorian house was first built
in 1904 by Fred and Myrtle Sammons, it was the home of their
dreams.
Then, just living in their new home for only nine months, what every
home owner fears happened. Early
in 1904, a fire that started in the downtown area and burned down most
of Hot Springs at that time also burned down their dream home, there
was nothing left standing. Fred and Myrtle were undaunted in their
dream of having a home in Hot Springs. Shortly after the fire they
started to rebuild their home just the way it stood before. By the end
of 1905 they moved back in their home.
Fred Sammons was the owner of a mercantile store
on Central Avenue
that sold groceries, feed, cement and other general merchandise. The
name of the store was Sammons & Sons. Fred and Myrtle had
four children, their daughter Gladys, lived with them until their
death. Gladys never married and continued to live in the house until
she passed away in 1991. The house set vacant for awhile, until it was sold to
a couple who wanted to convert it into a Bed & Breakfast. The Gables
opened for business in 1993.
In 1996 David and Judy bought the inn and are the longest
continuously operating B and B innkeepers in the Hot Springs area. David
and Judy have worked tirelessly inside and out to make the property the exclusive accommodations you see
today. The
inn features four rooms that have been individually decorated,
including a private bath for each bedroom. Great detail and
consideration make this one of the most elegant Bed & Breakfasts
around.
Back in 1904, this house was one couples dream home, now
over one hundred years later, it is still one couples dream home!

hold out for the heart-shaped bathtub. Today,
the tubs live on in a handful of resorts around the
country. And those hoteliers say they are as popular
as ever. The Gables Inn Bed & Breakfast in Hot
Springs, Ark., has one cream and mauve heart-shaped
tub, and its owners wish they had more.

"Judy's
initiative, enthusiasm, and service-oriented philosophy told us right
away why she and her husband, David, do such a good job presiding over
the charming Gables Inn, a stately turn-of-the-century home sitting
regally on a corner lot in the Quapaw Historic District. From the
moment we pulled up outside and saw the many gables, wraparound front
porch, bay windows, and stained-glass windows, we knew we were in for
a treat in the Victorian tradition."
